Update on winter weather and flooding

As we continue to see sub-zero temperatures following a period of heavy rainfall, there is a significant risk of patches of ice on Wiltshire roads this week.

Our gritting teams are working around the clock to treat the primary and secondary routes, but where there is surface or standing water there will be patches of ice, even on treated routes. As we have such a large road network, most minor routes will not be treated.

We are therefore asking residents to take extra care if they have to drive, to leave extra time for their journey, to drive to the conditions and to look out for ice.

We have had some requests to grit footpaths and pavements. Unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to do this, but there are gritting bins in place around the county for people to use to treat ice.

As well as the freezing temperatures, there are still some road closures in place around the county due to flooding. You can see the up-to-date list of closed roads at Flooding issues in Wiltshire.
