| People with an interest in scrutinising police force performance, speaking up for vulnerable prisoners and assisting with serious misconduct hearings can now apply for volunteer opportunities within the Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC) office.
These roles will support the PCC in delivering the four priorities set out in his Making Wiltshire Safer: Police and Crime Plan 2022-25. The latest round of volunteer recruitment includes opportunities to be part of the Joint Independent Governance and Risk Audit Committee, Police Misconduct Hearing Panels and Scrutiny Panels. These roles involve reviewing police actions as well as providing independent advice, assurance and recommendations to the Commissioner and the Chief Constable. Over a thousand people give up their free time to support the criminal justice system in Wiltshire whether it’s through being a Special Constable, being part of the Community Speed Watch scheme, working within restorative justice or being part of the many other volunteering opportunities on offer. Wiltshire PCC Philip Wilkinson said: “Volunteers give up their own time to make a real difference to their communities and help make Wiltshire a safer place to live and work. I’m constantly struck by their outstanding efforts which are unpaid and often, unseen. “I’d like them to know that without their work, our communities would be worse off and less protected. I’d like to put on record my gratitude and heartfelt thanks for their efforts. “I hope that more people, if they can, think about making their own contribution to making a difference to where they live.
