A36 Bathampton to Salisbury – overnight closures for road maintenance works

Wednesday 21 February to Tuesday 19 March 2024

National Highways operates, maintains and improves England’s motorways and major A-roads. This email is to let you know we will shortly be carrying out essential maintenance works on sections of the A36 between Bathampton and Salisbury. Our work will include but isn’t limited to road resurfacing, and renewing road markings and sensors.

The work will start on the evening of Wednesday 21 February and finish on the morning of Tuesday 19 March, and will take place overnight between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

To minimise disruption, the majority of work will take place on weeknights only when there are fewer vehicles on the road. During the day we will keep the road open as usual.

The work is currently programmed as follows:

  • Wednesday 21 to Saturday 24 February – full overnight closure of the A36 from Bathampton (Trossachs Dr) to Beckington roundabout, for 3 weeknights from 8pm until 6am the following morning.
  • Monday 26 February to Saturday 9 March – full overnight closure of the A36 near Salisbury (Quidhampton) between Wilton and St Pauls’ roundabouts, for 10 weeknights from 8pm until 6am the following morning.
  • Wednesday 13 to Tuesday 19 March – full overnight closure of the A36 near Fisherton De La Mere, between Cotley Hill roundabout and Deptford junction. For 6 nights including the weekend, from 8pm until 6am the following morning.

There will be fully signed diversion routes in place during all the full overnight closures, but please allow extra time for your journey. You can view the diversion details on our webpage https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/south-west/south-west-maintenance-schemes/ just look for ‘A36 Bathampton to Salisbury’.

Access for residents will be maintained but may involve a short delay depending on our stage of work.  Please show a copy of this postcard or speak to our gatemen who will escort you through the works if necessary.

We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum. We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes. Please monitor www.trafficengland.com to keep updated.
